NATURKÕTT® PAMPAS AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

NATURKÕTT® Pampas, like all NATURKÕTT® products, comes from animals that roam free throughout the year. The animals are not reared on concentrated fodder, the main source of feed is what nature has to offer - grass and water.

Because the animals are not fed with concentrated feed, which requires large amounts of energy to produce, and graze outside throughout the year instead of standing at times in heated stables, minimal energy is consumed in rearing. This means that the beef produced in South America use less energy overall than Swedish beef, even when taking transport into account (source: Swedish Environmental Protection Agency report; import of meat - export of environmental benefits).

Cattle have been pointed out as one of the worst culprits in contributing to global warming. This is because ruminants produce large quantities of the greenhouse gas methane during digestions. According to recently published research, permanent grasslands also contribute to binding large amounts of carbon, which reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. If you are concerned about the greenhouse effect, it is clearly better to choose meat from animals grazing on natural grasslands, such as NATURKÕTT® Pampas (Source: Agriculture, Ecosystems and Environment).

Another advantage is that animals have a more natural life and do not have to stand in cramped sheds for much of the year. In the debate on rising food prices, the argument has arisen that meat production requires large amounts of feed that could have been used for human consumption. Because these animals graze on natural grasslands, which often have no alternative use, they do not compete with humans for food.

NATURKÕTT® Pampas comes, as the name suggests, from the pampas. The pampas are the fertile lowlands of South America, located in Argentina, most of Uruguay, and the south of Brazil. The total area of the pampas is 750,000 km2. These vast plains have been used for hundreds of years. No forest has been destroyed to make way for this pasture.

Apart from the very natural rearing of animals, there are a number of further positive environmental arguments for NATURKÕTT® Pampas as compared with traditional production in Europe. We are convinced that meat produced in the most natural manner possible is the best choice for health - if the animals feel good, so do we.

Several scientific studies have recently supported this. Animals that graze freely and where the main source of feed is grass give meat with low fat and high levels of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids, which are also found in oily fish, have a number of well-documented health benefits, such as lowered blood lipids, a positive effect on cardiovascular diseases, an anti-inflammatory effect, good mental health and development of children’s brains and nervous systems.
